Ann Preston
Wire tree sculptor Ann Preston, who has lived in many areas of the country, now lives in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Her work may be seen during the summer and fall in Wisconsin at Domicile in Sister Bay, Soul Sisters on the Mississippi in Alma, The Red Door in Richland Center and the White Bird Gallery in Cannon Beach, Oregon. In each place she lived, a signature style of tree was conceived: the windswept desert dwellers, the coastal storm survivors and the majestic old growth hardwoods. As a Wisconsin native, Ann learned to love the natural grace and beauty of trees from her maternal grandmother. Her sculptures reflect her life’s journey, including their inception after a stroke (when she was 28) which left her with diminished use of her hands. At that point her rock collection became the base (literally) of her creations and therapy. . It is her hope that her sculptures will bring back a “happy childhood memory” or the memory of a time “when you looked up, reached up and kept on growing”. |
